Blogger Soiree
October 28th, 2006 by jgriffeyIf you are interested in learning about LITABlog or blogs in general, or have a blog and want to find other wackos like you, or would just like to know what the heck these blog things are: the LITA Forum Blogger Soiree is for you!
What: 2006 LITAForum Blogger Soiree
Where: The Flying Saucer, downtown Nashville
When: we will meet in the Sheraton Lobby at 5:30pm on Saturday and walk over together
Why: why not?
Who: I’ll be there, as will a number of other LITABloggers
Show up at 5:30pm in the lobby of the Sheraton, and I’ll see you there.
EDIT: As Zoe helpfully noted in her comment, Flying Saucer is at 111 10th Avenue South. Here’s a link to a Google Map with both the hotel and the restaurant marked and with driving directions…it IS walkable, but you probably don’t want to follow the google directions if you’re walking. Look at the map, and you’ll see how to walk it.

Remember, the walk to the Flying Saucer is downhill. The “best” (i.e. most visually interesting) walking route (imho, as a former downtown Nashville office grunt) is down Capitol Blvd (the street to the East of the hotel – meaning turn Right out the hotel’s front door), then right on Church St, then left on 7th Ave, then right on Broadway, to the street immedeately after the Frist Museum (9th?). Flying saucer is on teh right in the waay back of the building.
Why is this the most visually interesting you ask?
On Capitol Blvd down the hill you see the main entrance to Nashville Public Library, a beautiful – yet inefficiently laid out for staffing, edifice; turn around and you see the Tennessee State Capitol, a beautiful mid 1800′s Ionic edifice.
At the bottom of Capitol Blvd, there is a small park on the left side of the street with an interesting mural involving the side of a building and puzzle pieces.
7th Ave less visually inspiring, but at the cornerof Broadway, on the left, is one of the local high schools.
On Broadway, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts is an old US Post Office renovated into a fabulous museum.
As you turn left just past the Frist, the 100+ year old railroad station ,Union Station hotel, is on your right.
YMMV, but it’s a beautiful looking day out there today. (looks breezy, too)

Hey, did you notice how feature-rich the Flying Saucer web site is?! You can retrieve a list of beers by name, by type, or by brewer. Now I know exactly which India pale ales are available. I might have guessed Zoe picked this place based on their fine information organization skills!
