LITA’s new emerging leaders

LITA Congratulates Lauren Pressley- the New Emerging Leaders Program Participant. The Library and Information Technology Association (LITA) Board is pleased to announce its sponsorship of Lauren Pressley to the ALA Emerging Leaders Program. Lauren is currently the Instructional Design Librarian at Wake Forest University and co-chair of the LITA Distance Learning Interest Group. In addition, Lauren serves on the ALA Committee on the Status of Women in Librarianship and the ACRL WSS Instruction Committee. The ALA Emerging Leaders Program enables newer librarians from across the country to participate in problem-solving workgroups; network with peers; gain an inside look into ALA structure, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. Each participant is expected to provide two years of service to ALA or one of its units. LITA Seeks Web Manager

Job Description and application process In cooperation with the LITA Board, LITA staff, and the Web Coordinating Committee and interest group chairs, the Web Manager is responsible for the content and services available on the LITA website. The Web Manager makes policy recommendations to the Board on issues such as page appearance, standards and technologies used on the site, and the use of outside contractors; LITA staff is responsible for routine site maintenance and works with the Web Manager and ALA ITTS staff to implement changes. LITA Workshops at 2008 ALA Midwinter Meeting

LITA is offering our User Centered Design Regional Institute prior to ALA Midwinter in Philadelphia on Thursday and Friday, January 10-11, 2008. Day 1: Design Process; Day 2: Usability Learn about design process for managing digital projects in libraries and usability theory and methodology. This workshop covers two days, and can be attended for either day, or both days. Day One focuses on design process. Staff skills and responsibilities, artifacts of the design process, and communication channels are addressed. Web technologies and standards are included as a framework. Day Two focuses on usability theory and methodology. Practice with usability technique and methods, information on additional types of test methods, and administrative issues are addressed.
