Jason A. Clark builds digital library applications and sets digital content strategies for Montana State University Libraries. Jason first became interested in the intersection between libraries and technology while working as a web administrator for the Division of Information Technology at the University of Wisconsin. After two years, he moved on to lead the web services department at Williams College Libraries. It was here that he began to apply cataloging principles for search and retrieval in general library applications. My company has created an excellent solution for OPACs (Online Public Access Catalogues) that is faster, more user-friendly and more comprehensive than any other that we're aware of. For more information see our presentation at Opac Online. Best of all, Opac Online is open source and makes use of Lucene, the state-of-the-art information retrieval component. We offer cool features such as a "Did you mean.." function if your query returns too few results, a autocomplete-as-you-type search for thesaurus terms, and much more. Typical queries (even wildcard queries) yield results in less than a third of a second, using catalogues that have 100.000+ records ! Our address is www.opaconline.com. Please give us your comments and feedback and help us build the world's best solution for librarians and other library users !

I am currently a student in the Master’s of Information and Library Science degree at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut. I earned my BA in history from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. For about the past four years, I have been a sales associate and Easy Tech at Staples in Branford and Milford, Connecticut. After little success in my job search, I decided that it was time to earn my master’s degree and started in the spring of 2010. Considering my interest in history and enjoyment for historical research and documents, my current plan of study involves preparing for working in archival and preservation work. I also have a healthy interest in technology and how it may affect our lives and the information profession. My other interests include fantasy and science fiction novels, films, PC gaming, and roleplaying games. Current gadgets: Amazon Kindle 1, Motorola Droid, HP Mini 210-1030NR.

One Response to “Blogger information”

  1. Franziska Marks Says:

    Hi Lita Bloggers,
I’d like to introduce you to the Maintain IT Project(www.maintainitproject.org), , which funded by the Gates Foundation and focuses of the topic on how to best keep public access computers running.

We just launched the “Share your story” campaign (see the PDF here: http://www.maintainitproject.org/spread-the-word) to collect stories on challenges around keeping these computers running as well as successes and lessons learned. The information collected will be distilled into a series of how-to guides tailored to the specific technical support needs of different types of public libraries.

We’d love your help in getting the word out to Librarians, IT staff, and technology consultants! The more stories we collect, the better our guides will address the actual challenges libraries are facing.

Stories can be submitted online at http://www.maintainitproject.org or by contacting the project at maintainit@techsoup.org, or 415-633-9390 and 800-659-3579 x 390.

Thanks in advance for your help! If you have questions, please contact us at 800-659-3579 x 390.

    Thanks,

    Franziska Marks
    Senior Communications Manager, MaintainIT Project
