LITA Blog To-Do List

  • Select posts by blogger Done
  • Change checkboxes to radio buttons in Category selection for posts
Rationale: blogger must deselect Uncategorized in order for a posting not to appear there; readers see numbers of postings in each category but if they go to different categories they have to slog through repeat posts they just read in another category.
  • Reverse the position, meaning, and/or wording of earlier/later links, see lita-bigwig thread on “baffling dumb question time: litablog categories” Done
  • Rewrite the entire WordPress page/post composing UI in XUL … the Quicktags are cute, but limited. It’s still necessary to hand-code too much HTML for things like STRIKE or H3 tags, unless you write your page in, say, Dreamweaver and then paste the code in. Latest version fixes this with Ajax
  • Fix the categories display in the sidebar so subcategories nest under toplevel categories.

How come the search function doesn’t include poster? It would really be handy to be able to search for all the entries by Karen Schneider, for instance, or even for one’s own contributions. I guess that’s the first item on your wish list above. Duh. Select? or Search?

No need to post this comment live anywhere.

    1. I agree with Will. It would be nice to search by blogger.

    2. It would also be nice to click on the name of the posting blogger and get to their own blogs. I think most have them and that info was entered into the profiles. By the way, how do we get to the profiles. Maybe the click should take readers to the profile, from which they could click to the blog.

I like the idea of a variant of Rick’s #2, as a sort of user-selectable blogroll. Currently I think you have to have an account and go into Site Admin in order to see any info about the bloggers. What I would expect, though, clicking on a blogger’s name, would be a list of their posts or a view of their profile, rather than a jump out of the site onto their blog.

One thing we had talked about earlier was having a separate Page listing each of the bloggers, similar to PLA blog. I would like to play around with that a bit. Perhaps display a bit of profile info in the page and have a link to all posts by that blogger.

Fix the Combined Entries and Comments RSSFeed!

    Feed is fixed.

Can now click author to see all posts by author. Will that do? I didn’t see an easy way to make the Search let you search by author.

Ranti sent me a fix suggestion for the radio button vs. checkbox on the categories when posting. I think I need FTP access to replace the admin options, and I can’t get in right now, so that one is still on hold.

Nested subcategories seemed nice, but given how we’re now managing categories, perhaps the nested subcategories task should be defunct.

Can you create a new category for Legislative Updates? This will be coordinated by the Legislation & Regulation Committee. (we don’t want to use the Committees and IG category, as these will not be postings about the committee but about legislative topics of interest to LITA members.)

    Thanks/

Hi - following up Bill Drew’s comment 26 Jan. 2007… I cannot seem to subscribe to the Entries RSS feed using firefox 2.x or Internet Explorer 7.x…. this has been true for several weeks. I am able to read feeds from other sites using these technologies (ex. ACRLog comes in fine on both browsers). Thank you for providing this blog. V/r, - Andy
