LITA Forum 2012: early bird rates available through August 31

New ALCTS/LITA Metadata Standards Committee

LITA and the Association for Library Collections &Technical Services (ALCTS) , with the support of Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), divisions of the American Library Association, are pleased to announce the formation of the ALCTS/LITA Metadata Standards Committee. The ALCTS/LITA Metadata Standards Committee will play a leadership role in the creation and development of metadata standards for bibliographic information. The Committee will review and evaluate proposed standards; recommend approval of standards in conformity with ALA policy; establish a mechanism for the continuing review of standards (including the monitoring of further development); provide commentary on the content of various implementations of standards to concerned agencies; and maintain liaison with concerned units within ALA and relevant outside agencies. The Metadata Standards Committee will begin its work at the Midwinter Meeting of the American Library Association, January 2013. LITA Board of Directors

New LITA board members take office

Cindi Trainor, coordinator, Library Technology and Data Services, at Eastern Kentucky University, is the newly elected vice-president/president-elect of LITA.  Her term, and that of newly elected LITA board members, began at the conclusion of the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim last month. Trainor has been active in LITA since 2007, when she served on the LITA Library Hi Tech Award Committee and participated in the Blogs, Interactive GroupWare and Wikis Interest Group (BIGWIG).  Since then, Trainor has served on the Web Coordinating and the Top Tech Trends Committees and the Online Programming and Electronic Participation Implementation Task Forces.  As a director-at-large on the LITA Board, Trainor has served on the Executive Committee and has liaised with the Web Coordinating and the Assessment and Research Committees. “LITA’s members are its strength and its life, and I want to build on that by helping to transform LITA into an organization that is…

Student Registration Rate for the 2012 LITA Forum

LITA is offering a special student registration rate to the 2012 LITA National Forum to a limited number of graduate students enrolled in ALA accredited programs.   The Forum will be held October 5-7, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Columbus, OH.  To learn more about the Forum, visit http://www.ala.org/lita/conferences/forum/2012 In exchange for the discounted registration, students will assist the LITA organizers and the Forum presenters with the on-site operations for the Forum.  This year’s theme is “New World of Data.”  We are anticipating an attendance of 400-500 decision makers and implementers of new information technologies in libraries. The selected students will be expected to attend the full LITA National Forum, Friday noon through Sunday noon, but not the pre-conferences on Thursday and Friday.  You will be assigned a variety of duties, but will be able to attend the Forum programs, which include 3 keynote sessions, approximately 30 concurrent sessions,…
