On behalf of BIGWIG, as usual, here is a calendar of LITA events at ALA Annual

BIGWIG Social Software Showcase 2009
The Social Software Showcase, presented by LITA’s BIGWIG, is a chance to learn about several different areas of software in a quick, efficient way. The way it works is that the content for the showcase is voted on beforehand, and presentations are created for that content. The presentations are made available online on the Social Software Showcase page. The presenters and their topics are briefly introduced at the beginning of the showcase, then the attendees are given the opportunity to visit each of the presenters to discuss their topic for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, the attendees rotate and move on to the next topic. This provides the opportunity for attendees to visit each of the presenters or, as in my case, attend as many presentations as fit into their available time. The four which I attended were mobile websites and applications, information mashups with government information, cloud computing, and…
LITA Events at Annual 2009 Calendar
Once again, the BIGWIG Google Calendar with all LITA events is populated. This makes it easy to remix, subscribe to via RSS, or via iCal. See you in Chicago!
Midwinter Map
Following in the steps of the BIGWIG Google Calendar for LITA’s Midwinter activities, here’s a Google Map of the Midwinter places, populated by BIGWIG and friends. Thanks, as always, to Cindi for getting the maps for ALA Conferences started. View Larger Map
Drupal4Lib BoF at ALA Anaheim
We got a great crowd of around 20 people for our Drupal ‘Birds of a Feather’. The above is a shot of everybody in the BIGWIG Bloggers’ room — just before we got kicked out by some group from YALSA (bums, we’ll get even)! (We then proceeded to the next available empty room and had our get-together there.) First up on the agenda was setting up the Drupal IG, making sure we have enough signatures and asking for volunteers to serve as Chair and Co-Chair. For the first year, Leo Klein (i.e. me) graciously volunteered to serve as chair and Ian Chan as co-chair. The name for the IG is ‘Drupal4Lib’ and our purpose is “to promote the use and understanding of the content management system, Drupal, by libraries and librarians”. Next on the agenda was the true meat-and-potatoes of the BoF: shooting the breeze about Drupal and demonstrating a…
BIGWIG Business Meeting – Monday morning
Just reminding any who are interested in getting involved in BIGWIG that we are having our business meeting on Monday morning from 8 – 10 in the LITA Blogger’s Room. This is located in Hilton Hotel in the Carmel room. Just go up 2 escalators from the lobby and take a left down a narrow hallway. We are about half-way down. Hope to see you there!
Live Streaming from ALA Annual 2008
This is not an organized LITA endeavor, but as a proof-of-concept for BIGWIG, I am going to be streaming as much as I can from ALA Annual 2008. The service I’m using for this is called Ustream, and the live channel can be found here: http://www.ustream.tv/griffey Because of the vagaries of internet access at the various convention hotels, it remains to be seen exactly what I will be able to do…but I’m going to give it a try! Even if you miss the live stream, all of the videos will be at the above URL to peruse at your leisure. If you are interested in trying to catch me live, I’ll be announcing it over on Twitter.
gCalendar of LITA events at Annual 2008
A while back, BIGWIG started up Your BIGWIG as a place to collaboratively do stuff. One of the resources on Your BIGWIG is an embedded gCal. One day, in a spirit of “too much stuff to do, so I’ll do something completely unrelated instead” I populated this calendar with all the LITA events I could find for ALA Annual in Anaheim. If you’re frustrated, as many are, with the ALA Event Planner, feel free to save events from this calendar into your own (trust me, this is *much* easier than the Event Planner for LITA events) Por su servico…
Your BIGWIG
The LITA Blogs, Interactive Groupware and Wikis Interest Group (otherwise known by the sobriquet BIGWIG) is pleased to announce a new online presence for the group: www.yourbigwig.com What is YourBIGWIG? Straight from the site itself: BIGWIG has created this website in order to facilitate communication between BIGWIG members, potential members and interested parties. We hope to use this site to enable BIGWIG to be more efficient and effective in the work we do, allow for virtual participation, and solicit feedback and commentary on our activities. So: head on over and check us out. Sign up for an account, and make yourself part of the process of making LITA a more efficient, effective, and forward-thinking division of ALA.
LITA BIGWIG Midwinter Meeting Minutes
Would we want to put on a face to face web 2.0 thing? Give people hands on experience with stuff? Could be a good chance to get techie and non-techie people together. Facilities might be available if we can come up with a plan for events and such in the next 60-90 days. —– Michelle Boule, U of Houston, Co-Chari Diane Hillman, Cornell, Standards Coordinator for LITA Erin McCaffrey, Regis U in Denver, Mark Beatty, VP, President-Elect Tiffeny McCall, UTKnoxville, new LITA person Jason Griffey, UT Chattanooga, Chair-Elect Karen Coombs, Co-Chair, U Houston Beth Hoffman, Newbie, Not Present but Important Kevin Clark, Tech Coordinator for Blog Jonathon Blackburn, volunteer wrangler for Blog — Program for ALA Annual Not quite sure what to do yet – social software something or other….
