Submit Your Preconference ideas for the 2018 ALA Annual Conference New Orleans, LA, June 21-26, 2018 LITA is now accepting innovative and creative preconference proposals for the 2018 Annual American Library Association Conference. We’re looking for either full day or half day sessions to take place on Friday, June 22, 2018. Preconferences should emphasize hands on and interactive experiences. The focus should be on technology in libraries, whether that’s use of, new ideas for, trends in, or interesting/innovative projects being explored – it’s all for you to propose. Programs should be of interest to all library/information agency types, that inspire technological change and adoption, or/and generally go above and beyond the everyday. LITA AvramCamp: The Only Way To Kick Off ALA Annual

By Aisha Conner-Gaten, Instructional Design Librarian and thankful participant ALA Annual Conference is a librarian’s annual opportunity to connect with colleagues, collaborate with those outside their siloed systems and departments, and enjoy free posters, books, and events. This year’s Annual Conference offered a particularly valuable experience to female-identifying folks involved in technology called LITA AvramCamp. Inspired by AdaCamp, this day long preconference included leaders and technology staff from various paths to coalesce and reflect on our roles, lives, and most importantly, share experiences from across the country. LITA AvramCamp provided the space for folks to express their concerns and feelings about working with technology and excelling in a male-dominated field. Do you want to participate in AvramCamp, LITA’s AdaCamp-inspired event, a one-day unconference for women in library technology, at ALA Annual in Chicago? Would travel funding help you to attend? Thanks to support from our sponsors, LITA is offering several $500 travel scholarships (apply here). Scholarships will be awarded competitively based on the committee’s ranking of applications received by the deadline (April 15, 2017).
