The business meeting for BIGWIG (Blogs, Interactive Groupware, Wiki Interest Group) will take place on Sunday 1/13/2008 from 10:30 am to noon in Room 307B of the Philadelphia Conference Center. Public Libraries Technology Interest Group

The LITA Public Libraries Technology Interest Group will meet on Sunday, January 13, from 10:30 am to noon in the South Ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel. Kimberly Bolan and Robert Cullin, authors of Technology Made Simple: An Improvement Guide for Small and Medium Libraries, will join the group to talk about their guide and answer questions. In addition, Larra Clark, project manager of ALA’s Public Library Funding & Technology Access Study, will discuss current findings and how administrators can use them as well as future directions of the study. Next Generation Catalog IG at Midwinter

Next Generation Catalog IG at Midwinter: Three Next Generation Catalog Projects The LITA Next Generation Catalog Interest Group will meet on Sunday, January 13, from 4:00 to 6:00pm in the Hilton Garden Inn (conveniently located just outside the convention center), in Salon A/B. We will have presentations and discussion about three locally developed and/or open source catalog projects. Ross Shanley-Roberts of Miami University will discuss their SolrPac project; Bess Sadler of the University of Virginia will discuss their Project Blacklight; and Chris Barr and Andrew Nagy of Villanova will discuss their VuFind project. A brief business IG business meeting will follow the discussion.

Electronic Resources IG meeting at Midwinter

The meeting of the Electronic Resource Management IG at ALA Midwinter is set for the following day/time/place: Friday, January 11th 7:30-9:00pm Courtyard Downtown, Salon II 21 N. LITA Town Meeting

I’d like to invite LITA members (and those who want to be LITA members!) to the LITA Town Meeting on Monday, January 14, 2008, from 8:00 am to 10:00 am in room 103A of the Philadelphia Convention Center. This year’s Town Meeting will focus on “Communicating and Marketing the Strength of LITA.” LITA’s new Emerging Leader, Lauren Pressley, will help lead a discussion of the strategies and technologies used to communicate to the LITA membership and to market membership success to the division, ALA, and the greater library community. LITA’s Programs and Marketing Specialist, Melissa Prentice, will also be on hand to participate. Please use the blog (preferably with comments here) to submit your input prior to the conference.
