This year the Forum 2009 Planning Committee is trying something new. We are asking the community of LITA members and potential Forum attendees to give the Committee feedback on which proposals they would be most interested in seeing presented as concurrent sessions at Forum. NGCIG Meeting: Interoperability of Next Generation Catalogs and Users

The LITA Next Generation Catalog Interest Group will meet on Sunday, January 25, 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. in Colorado Convention Center Room 110 We will have presentations and discussion about two examples of recent next generation catalog endeavors. Beth Jefferson (Founder of Bibliocommons) will share real world examples and implications of “Transforming online library catalogs from searchable inventory systems into engaging social discovery environments”. John Mark Ockerbloom, University of Pennsylvania Libraries and chair of the Digital Library Federation’s ILS-DI Task Group will “Outline the DLF ILS-DI recommendations, describe some of the activities inspired by or related to the recommendations, and discuss what fruit they can bear”. The demand for new ways for users to discover relevant library resources has grown tremendously in the past few years. Call for Proposals for LITA National Forum 2009

*Reminder* CALL FOR PROPOSALS The 2009 National Forum Committee seeks proposals for high quality concurrent sessions and poster sessions for the 12th annual LITA National Forum to be held at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah from October 1-4, 2009. This year we have switched over to online submissions so it’s quick and easy (see the URL below). Also, we’ve extended the deadline for submitting proposals to February 20, 2009! Theme: Open and Mobile The Forum Committee is interested in presentations that highlight specific technology implementations; just over-the-horizon technologies that are almost ready for implementation; or information technology research. The LITA Next Generation Catalog Interest Group will meet on Monday, June 30, 10:30 a.m. – Noon. Sara Davidson and Amy Kautzman (Members of UC/OCLC Pilot Implementation Team) will present “Launching a Next-Generation Consortial Catalog”. ER&L (Electronic Resources & Libraries) and LITA ERM IG are hosting an informal discussion during the LITA Forum about the state of e-resource management. The meeting will be Saturday, October 6th from 8-9am in the Molly Brown Room. Grab some breakfast and come in for a discussion. Join us as we continue our discussions (started at ER&L, ACRL and NASIG) on the future of e-resources management. We’ve been exploring ideas of how to create a community, a collaborative work space, an understanding, and a vocabulary about how we need to manage and make accessible our electronic content. These conversations spurred this blog and ideas for other collaborative spaces, like the projects wiki. Bonnie Tijerina will touch on some of the highlights of the discussions held so far and possible future projects. Next Generation Catalog IG Meeting at Annual

The LITA Next Generation Catalog Interest Group (NGCIG) will hold its inaugural meeting at the ALA Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, on Saturday, June 23, from 1:30 to 3:30 in the Madison Hotel Montpelier Salon I. We will have a managed discussion featuring presentations on three libraries’ approaches to next generation catalogs: Don Barlow, Westerville Public Library, will discuss their work with Innovative’s Encore product Dale Poulter, Vanderbilt University, will discuss their work with Ex Libris’ Primo Steve Shadle, University of Washington, will discuss their implementation of OCLC’s WorldCat Local LITA IG meetings are open to all ALA attendees (and for non-attendees, we already have a couple of bloggers lined up).
